17 Nov A Hot Chocolate Weekend in PEI
Prince Edward Island is the perfect spot for a cozy weekend getaway. What better way to kick off the holiday season than by spending a couple of days with loved ones exploring the Island’s Hot Chocolate Trail? This year, the Hot Chocolate Trail has partnered with accommodations to give you great deals with their Sweet Escape Packages! Fairways Cottages is offering a special package deal at their cottages in Cavendish – this is the perfect way to rest and relax near the beautiful North Shore. If you prefer to stay in the city, The Great George Hotel is also promoting a weekend stay package during the Hot Chocolate Trail.
Day 1
Morning
Kick off your weekend in Charlottetown with a cup of hot cocoa! Stop by The Gallery, serving their S’more than Just Cocoa, which is a Belgian dark hot chocolate with toasted marshmallow, salted caramel syrup, whipped cream, and a cookie on top. When you are fueled on hot chocolate, window-shop in downtown Charlottetown in all its festive glory!

Afternoon
After lunch, spend your afternoon holiday shopping in Charlottetown. There are many local boutiques and gift shops with unique Christmas finds! Make sure to visit Owl’s Hollow, a great spot for games, toys, and puzzles – and while you’re there, sip on their Pete the Squirrel’s Hazelnut Hot Chocolate, made with house-made chocolate sauce, hazelnut syrup, freshly whipped hazelnut cream, and a chocolate-dipped pretzel.
Evening
Wrap up your evening by enjoying a local meal at Route 2 Diner in Hunter River! For dessert, treat yourself to their Chocolate Hazelnut Dream Hot Chocolate – the perfect sweet ending to your first day on the trail.
Day 2
Morning
Start your morning by grabbing a bite to eat in North Rustico and a hot chocolate at Frothy Coffee Bar. Their Frothy Toffee Hot Chocolate is made with rich cocoa, chocolate whipped cream, toffee bits, and a swirl of caramel for a sweet finish. Next door, stop in at the Rustico Surf Club for some Island-inspired apparel. While in North Rustico, visit Rustico Bay Wool Sweater Co. for beautiful, authentic wool sweaters, mitts, and hats – perfect for holiday gifting.

Afternoon
Take a scenic drive along PEI’s North Shore in the PEI National Park. While you are in the area, explore some of the local shops in the Cavendish and Stanley Bridge area, such as Island Style Boutique, Knitpickers PEI, and Carr’s Oyster Bar and Gift Shop. When you’re ready for a bite to eat, stop at The Willow Bakery and Café. Their menu is full of delicious options — and if you’re still craving cocoa, they’ve got you covered with two decadent choices: Oreo Mint Hot Chocolate and Brown Butter Brownie Hot Chocolate.

Evening
End your day at Bar1911 for some delicious pub food and their Toasted Dreams Hot Chocolate to top it off.
Whether you’re exploring the cafés and shops along the Red Sands Shore or taking in the coastal views on the Green Gables Shore, a hot chocolate weekend in PEI is a relaxing way to enjoy the season. From Charlottetown to Cavendish, you’ll find plenty of great stops, local flavors, and small-town charm along the way.
